Boca Raton Window Replacement provides professional retrofit windows in Boca Raton, FL for residential and commercial properties across southern Palm Beach County. Retrofit means keeping your existing frame and setting a new window inside it. Most of the country treats that as a tidy, cheap, sensible choice. In Boca Raton it is a choice the building department has an opinion about, and the opinion is written down.
The two methods are easy to tell apart on a job site. A retrofit, which suppliers also list as an insert or a pocket replacement, leaves the old frame bedded in the wall and anchors the new unit into it. A full-frame replacement takes the frame back to the rough opening, which is the only way to change the opening size.
Here is why that distinction carries more weight in Palm Beach County than in Ohio. Replacing a window in Florida is permitted, inspected work, and Section 707.4 of the Florida Existing Building Code sends replacement windows and doors to Chapter 16 for wind design. So the unit going in has to appear on an approval list carrying a pressure rating that covers this particular opening.
That rating is the part almost nobody explains. A design pressure is not a property of the window alone.
It belongs to the window plus the anchor schedule drawn in its product approval: fastener type, spacing, embedment depth, and the material being fastened into. Those drawings show masonry or a pressure-treated buck. They rarely show a thirty-year-old aluminum frame.
Section 553.842 of the Florida Statutes is why this surfaces at the permit counter rather than in a warranty argument years later. Statewide approval stops a local official from demanding fresh testing. It also lets that official refuse a particular installation, in a written report, where the application is inconsistent with the approval the product holds.
None of which rules retrofit out across most of this city. The stucco-over-block stock built through the 1970s and 1980s has frames still bedded tight, and cutting a stucco return to chase one of them is expensive, messy and a new water path. Where the approval covers anchoring into that condition, leaving the return alone is the better engineering.
Two measurements before anyone orders glass. A retrofit shrinks the clear opening, and a bedroom escape opening is sized on clear opening. Section 702.5 of the Existing Building Code does give replacement windows relief there, but on terms, including that the unit is the largest standard size the existing frame or rough opening will take. That relief covers a straight swap, not a room you are converting.
So the recommendation, including when not to buy. Two failed windows in a house of sound frames should be two retrofits and a permit, not a whole-home proposal. But where the opening needs a rated assembly and the retrofit cannot show the anchorage that rating depends on, the cheaper method is the wrong purchase, and we will say so before you sign. Boca Raton's building division and its inspector settle it either way.

Materials, equipment and how we do retrofit windows
The difference between retrofit windows that lasts and retrofit windows that gets redone in three years is almost always preparation and materials, not the finish you see on day one. We work with statewide Florida Product Approval listings valid outside the HVHZ, ASTM E1886 and E1996 large-missile impact testing, AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440 performance class and grade, design pressures read from the county ultimate wind speed map, spec them to the job instead of to the invoice, and write the material grades into the free estimate so you know exactly what you are buying.
Every Boca Raton job runs the same way: site walk and measurements, written scope and fixed price, protection of the surrounding area, then the work itself with a daily clean-up. Years of window work in southern Palm Beach County means we have already met whatever your property is going to throw at us — awkward access, older construction, an HOA with opinions.
